I agree however that the culture of the school may be different than the rest of Mexico.Carissa Peckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07908750269180519422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2912540277702268114.post-1048261697408100602012-12-12T13:29:17.182-07:002012-12-12T13:29:17.182-07:00Your comment about your students shows that they a...Your comment about your students shows that they are unfamiliar with other social classes in Mexico, let alone the US! Surely there are plenty of people in Mexico who juggle two or three jobs to make ends meet?Caplanbettyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07429050393692378545noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2912540277702268114.post-88486433587020959632012-10-01T06:22:15.086-06:002012-10-01T06:22:15.086-06:00I'd say it is similar! She told the students that a man was on a bus and he saw that someone got off the bus and left their magazine on it. Wanting to return it he showed up at the person's house later that day. How did they know where he lived?

All of the students explained that he had simply asked the people on the bus. Since they came from a smaller town it made perfect sense that everyone would know him.

The answer the teacher was looking for was that it was a magazine subscription and had his address on it. To the stduents though this seemed unheard of. Subscriptions hadn't really picked up there yet.

Always interesting to see how others interpret things!Carissa Peckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07908750269180519422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2912540277702268114.post-12870282234382734472012-09-29T05:51:59.793-06:002012-09-29T05:51:59.793-06:00I don't know if this is tyensame but (Im Hispa...I don't know if this is tyensame but (Im Hispanic teaching Spanish in the USA) I was talkig about schools in Puerto Rico not having football teams or cheerleaders and I got the "blank face" from my students.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2912540277702268114.post-55109391802113531292012-06-15T19:09:26.212-06:002012-06-15T19:09:26.212-06:00Could be...I hadn't thought about that, becaus...Could be...I hadn't thought about that, because a lot of my friends live on their own, but you're right there still is a big number living at home (but they all have jobs!)

My friend has also pointed out that Tec tends to have its own culture. They expect a lot out of the students and as a result it seems unheard of to work.

Now, this isn't 100% true, because I have asked my classes before who had used a resume / had an interview or worked a job and I¿ve always had a few hands go up... but it definitely isn't the norm.Carissa Peckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07908750269180519422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2912540277702268114.post-22518151812808001062012-06-15T16:51:09.344-06:002012-06-15T16:51:09.344-06:00Maybe with the whole living-with-mom-forever thing...Maybe with the whole living-with-mom-forever thing?Laurenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17652807990237525819noreply@blogger.com
